freeze frames

I sneakily caught this cute papa/daughter game.

We tried to make a newspaper trap (torn up newspaper that should fall down when the door opens) to trick Papa on April Fools Day, but it failed. He didn't open the door wide enough.

But we still had fun with the newspaper.

We pulled out the blown egg ornaments we made last year to create our Osterbaum (Easter Tree).

Isaac is constantly making awesome lego inventions like this boat.

Isaac and the bread octopus he made today with his friend (we had a Hawaii themed playdate to spite the inches of snow that fell during the night). Yes, he thinks he is smiling.

Freeze Christmas Card 2013

Freeze Family
2013 Review

2013 was a year full of change and transition. Kent and Melanie began the year teaching their second semester at Wesleyan University in Connecticut as visiting assistant professors of Political Science. Isaac turned three and discovered the powerful word "why." The entire family enjoyed travelling to Israel during spring break. Everyone especially loved the waterfalls of Ein Gedi.

One day after the last day of classes, Melanie gave birth to Kate Bronwyn Freeze. About a month later, Kent took a quick mileage run to Uruguay, the Freezes packed up, visited family in Alaska for a couple weeks, and then flew back to CT to begin their drive to Northfield, Minnesota (In October 2012, Kent accepted a tenure-track position at Carleton College which is located in Northfield.

The summer was spent preparing for the upcoming semester and exploring the wonders of Northfield (e.g., black raspberries in the Carleton arboretum, the Vintage Band Festival, and the Defeat of Jesse James Day).

Kate is becoming very interested in her surroundings and especially loves laughing at her older brother's antics. Isaac has grown so much in the past year. He loves being read stories, building with legos, and making up songs.

Thanksgiving Walk 2013

If possible, we try to go on a family walk on Thanksgiving day (e.g., 2007, 2008, 2009). This year's walk was so much fun. It felt wonderful to get out of the house even though it was a chilly day.

Bundled up and ready to go.

Isaac has already found a stick...a must do on any walk

Beautiful sunny, and quiet neighborhood

The game this year was to find as many pumpkins as possible. The students disposed of them in very interesting places. We liked the pumpkins that were frozen in the pond.

I found a cute little pumpkin in the leaves. An exciting find.

There are hundreds of geese currently residing on the Carleton ponds. Even from far away, you can hear the cacophony of their honking. As we walked closer, several groups took flight and it was awesome seeing them fly above us.
 Lots of geese

I love the pattern of winter trees against the sky

Kate was well bundled as also love the walk

Happy thanksgiving. We are so grateful for family, friends, and the beautiful earth.

Kate is Great

We don't take enough pictures of Kate, but here are a few to show how cute and chubby she is! She loves to sleep and squawks at me to let me know she wants to sleep. Her hair is still amazing.

Kent and Kate at Minnehaha Falls

Isaac took this picture of her in her swing just after she had calmed down after a good cry.

Going swimming.

Isaac and Kate snuggling.

Today we were working on typing and letters. We found a fun site that you can type letters in and make animal letters!
Here is the address if you want to try it yourself:

One reason why Kent is awesome...

1) He can build incredible lego things with absolutely no instructions! Completely made from his own mind per Isaac's request:

A crane that swivels, drives, and can actually hook and wind up other legos.

A ferris wheel with seats that swing as the wheel goes around.
